Part I:  You Heard it Here First

Fourteen years ago, Artist in Action regular, Katie Roche, was modeling in New York and starting her music career with her band Kat Roche and the Dioramas.  They recorded an album called Hell's Heavy Gates, that was a fusion of punk and jazz, inspired by Russian poetry and the heartache of being young and in love in the City.  But the album was never released and the band broke up.  Want to hear it?  Tune into this podcast to hear three never-released-before songs and an exclusive interview with Katie Roche about her pre-Awful Purdies days.  And if you want to hear more off the album (and want her to release it) send Katie an email at katie@awfulpurdies.com.

Part II: Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck by Idris Goodwin

Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck...But you knew that didn’t you?
Or at least you want to believe it....but of course thats hard to do when you turn on big budget radio or the music video channel.
While much of the mainstream media outlets present the worst of the genre, my goal is play you the best of the bunch.
Reaching back to the golden era, out to the fringes, and into the future I'll be playing you the finest rappers, hip hop poets and spoken word artists doing what they doin response to the week's selected theme.  Hip Hop is not dead my friends, its alive and well in Iowa City and it doesn't suck....it rules!
