Idris Goodwin is an award-winning playwright, break beat poet, recording and cross-disciplinary performance artist. His poetry has been published in the Spoken Word Revolution Redux Anthology, Rattle Magazine, DIAGRAM, WORD RIOT, decomP and featured prominently in the forthcoming The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop. An artist who crosses genres between film, theatre, rap and poetry, Idris joins us to talk about what it’s like to work with and against stereotypes, the state of hip hop in America and his experiences teaching and performing across the country, including a performance on Russell Simmons’ HBO Def Poetry.
We’ll hear samples of his hip hop, an excerpt of his one man show, “Bullet Bites Man” and his poems “What is They Feedin Our Kids” and “Old Ladies and Dope Fiends”.
And stay tuned to AIA - Idris will be bringing more of his work to our studio in December (we’ve got his promise on radio!).
